Our workshop

Fourteen makers. One small workshop. Toys for a lifetime.

Since 2014 we’ve been cutting, sanding and finishing every piece by hand in Brunswick, Melbourne.

How it started

A toddler bed, a garage, and a very stubborn idea.

When our founder Hannah went looking for a toddler bed for her son Pip, everything she found was either flat-packed chipboard or wrapped in plastic. So she borrowed her dad’s tools and built one herself in the garage.

Friends asked for one. Then friends of friends. Ten years later, the garage is a light-filled workshop on Sawdust Lane, and Pip is twelve — still sleeping on the same timber slats.

We still believe what we believed back then: children deserve beautiful, honest things that are built to last, and parents deserve to know exactly what’s in them.

What we stand for

Four promises in every piece

Solid, honest timber

No MDF, no particle board, no plastic. Just FSC-certified hardwoods and birch ply from responsibly managed forests.

Safe for little mouths

Water-based paints, plant oils and beeswax. Every design tested to AS/NZS ISO 8124 and EN71.

Planet first

Plastic-free packaging, offcuts turned into toys, and a native tree planted for every single order.

Built to hand down

A 10-year furniture warranty, spare parts for life and a buy-back program when you’re done.

From forest to playroom

How a Pip & Pine piece is made

Most toys take around two weeks from sketch to shelf. Furniture takes three to four.

Sketch & prototype

Every design is play-tested by real kids (and their very honest feedback) before it goes into production.

Select & cut

We hand-pick each board for grain and strength, then cut on our CNC and bandsaws to tenth-of-a-millimetre tolerances.

Sand, sand, sand

Four grades of sanding — down to 320 grit — for edges so smooth they feel like river stones.

Finish by hand

Plant oils, beeswax or water-based paint, applied by hand in thin coats and cured for 72 hours.

Test & pack

Pull, drop and bite tests on every batch, then packed in recycled paper with a handwritten note.

Sustainability

Good for kids. Good for the planet they’ll inherit.

We plant a native tree with Landcare Australia for every order, power the workshop with 100% renewable electricity and turn our offcuts into small toys — and the sawdust into garden mulch for local community gardens.
